Hello everyone! This is Jesse Ng (former
band member - '06 grad). If any of you are
interested, The University of Minnesota
"Pride of Minnesota" Marching Band will be
putting on an indoor concert on December
1st and 2nd (7PM & 3PM, respectively). This
is an amazing concert with wonderful musical
and colorful segments from our season. You
will get an opportunity to meet with members
of the Marching Band to see what we are all
about, especially for those seniors who are
thinking about attending the U of M next
fall and want to continue with music (either
as a discipline or a hobby), you'll
definitely want to check us out!

YEA Team!!!! I can't even begin to express
how happy I am at the cooperation of all of
you worker bees out there----Parent leads
have been WONDERFUL and you kids are doing a
super great job----3 more cleanups left for
the season and we will be smiling ALOT when
those are complete. We had near 100%
attendance for the first time ever----there
were some people that carried their weight
and then some-----some peeps have 7
cleanings that they have done----that is
amazing and it shows HUGE dedication to the

well, it seems that noraker is already
planning next years show, it sounds like it

regret is not being able to see you all
transform into an awesome group, but i can
tell noraker did a great job.

well, its finally here. the end of my
marching band experiences...these were the
greatest 4 years of my life so far, and i
want to thank everyone for making that a
true statement. for those who decide to
continue, it is, omg i cant even describe
it. marching band will be your second
family. i can still remember when i did the
be a marching bengal night, it was such an
overwhelming experience. the band back then
was a lot bigger (alot or a lot?) than it is
now, and yes noraker was there. even though
i played tuba at the time, i had just
switched from baritone so they put me on a
marching baritone instead of a tuba. i
recall lifting and thinking the 3\4 size
tuba was 'unwieldy' and now the silver one i
thought was monstrous feels like it weighs
nothing at all. if only i could remember the
tuba flip matt john taught me. i remember at
the football game that night i nearly froze
all i wore was a sweatshirt and it was like
30 out, and that was about 80 lbs ago, so i
wasnt as well prepared for winter as i am
now. heat week was a conflicting experience
to say the least. i remember it was hotter
than it was the past 3 years, and i was just
dying. my parents showed up and i was like
"please take me home now, PLEASE!" but i got
through it. (that was the time when hustling
did not just mean run back to your previous
set, but run as fast as you can, and as a
result of that, 1 girl got too injured to
participate and had to quit marching band)
(i also recall we started to play and march
on the first day, and back then it was only
a 4 day heat week not five, but somehow we
managed to get so much done). wow i wish i
had been able to think of all this for my
senior bio which i wrote in a hurry before
first hour the day it was due. so anyway
marching band = good, staying in it = gooder,
having fun with it = necessary,
for everything else, theres master card.

better. actually think about what you

on. its mainly individual mistakes now.
i cant stress this enough. MENTAL REHERSAL!!!!
i know it sounds dumb to all those who
havent done it but do it atleast twice a
day. that would take a total of what, 15
min? isnt 15 min of your time worth the
knowledge that you are giving almost as much
as you can for the better of the band?

show every year? pretty sure this could be
it. We were missing 2.5 bass drums. a
flute, a clarinet (i think?), a trumpet and
probably more. THEN...EVERYONE basically
was out of it afterwards from not being able
to breath to twisted ankles and basically
everything in between. oh, and my stupid
knee....what a poop. BUT i heard we were
0.1 off from best percussion and 0.8 off
from 1st place. i could have misheard, but
that's what i heard. so...DANG guys!!!

sure we did actually go down a point from
champlin, but scores arent everything, we
know we had a awesome uberfilled performance
and we don't need a bunch of judges to tell
wether we did or not, oh and im also glad
that whole crazy storm/tornado/apocalypse
didnt out to be a big deal, i was imagining
us performing the show and a tornado hitting
and us getting sucked up into it. "keep the
intervals. horn angles, a tornado is no
excuse!"

congratulations, band! pretty good score. i
know noraker did have some comments for
you... and i must say i do kinda agree.
EVERYONE needs to put forth 100 % if not
more. i believe that is the one thing that
seperates you from being champion band. i
say this not to be harsh, but when you
finally graduate from this band, and come to
a competition and watch for the first time,
you will probably ask yourself "did i ever
give my all?" the alumni sitting in the
stands were soooo proud to have been in your
shoes. they put forth a lot of effort to
have gotten to where they are. in a few
years, you'll hopefully be in their shoes.
so to those who are giving 110%, i commend
you for your hard work. to those giving only
90%, you know what you need to do.

anyhow..
scared rookie, don't worry about it...we're
going to be great this year. i think it just
seemed like that because most of them knew
their whole show..
plus, most of the time, we arent even in the
same class with a lot of those bands.
(we don't get judged in their group so they
don't compete with us)
we're going to do great this year, it just
all depends on how much work you put into
it.

To the scared rookie, don't worry about it!
There are always going to be bands that seem
better than you, but there's always someone
in the stands who thinks your band is the
best. I think of field shows as learning
experiences; they motivate you to work
harder.

harder this year? I thought it was
completly different, but then again i was
with the band the whole time, last year we
never were. I can't quite put my finger on
it, but things seemed so different this
year. it was weird. but i waS A GOOD

man, my last heat week is over...it seems so
weird to be a senior, to think ill never
sleep on a pile of plastic mattresses again.
heat week is very conflicting, i mean you
work your backside off all week and most of
the time your thinking 'man i just wanna go
home' but at the same time its fun and you
dont want to leave. it went by so fast too,
every year it gets shorter, and worst of
all, illl never experience the exploding
fountain again.
